On date 26/06/2025 Mapusa Goa In a startling press briefing held today, social worker and NGO representative Aishwarya Salgaonkar made serious allegations against the Mapusa Police Inspector, claiming gross negligence and lack of awareness regarding laws under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
According to Salgaonkar, illegal animal slaughtering activities are reportedly being carried out at Canca Verla, Goa, with the local police allegedly turning a blind eye. “The Police Inspector appears to be unaware or deliberately ignoring the fact that such slaughtering is a punishable offence under the Animal Cruelty Act,” she stated.
In response to the ongoing violations, an official complaint has been lodged by the NGO, demanding immediate intervention. Salgaonkar emphasized that these activities not only violate legal statutes but also pose serious ethical and environmental concerns.
The NGO has formally urged authorities to take swift action, including the instant transfer of the concerned PI to the Goa Reserve Police Force or Tourist Police, citing loss of public trust and failure to uphold the law.
“If law enforcers themselves are unaware of the law, how can the public feel protected?” Salgaonkar questioned during the briefing.
The activist further appealed to state authorities, the Director General of Police, and the Department of Animal Husbandry to launch a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure strict enforcement of animal protection laws.
As the issue gains traction, public and media attention are now focused on the response from the concerned government departments. Citizens and animal welfare advocates across Goa await a clear and firm stand on the matter.
